Elle magazine US have recently began a series of short documentaries on their online website titled “The cost of being a woman”. These videos focus on the struggles modern women have to face in everyday life  and the true cost they have to pay in order to stay beautiful , desired, safe and healthy.

The first episode was all about miscarriages   And the experience of three brave women who had to face them. They dealt with not only an extremely painful process both physically and mentally, but also financially. In America health insurance is supposed to help cover your costs of medical issues and procedures, whoever in the US even insured women can end up paying up to $2,500 on a miscarriage. Covering for doctors fees, check ups, D&C procedures ( where the tissue is removed from the uterus after a miscarriage has taken place).

The mini six minute documentary really highlighted to me the immense pain women have to deal with in their daily lives. For a woman having to cope with losing her baby financial payments and worries seem unjust and unbearable, acting as a constant reminder of the ordeal they have gone through until the bills have been paid.

I found this documentary really informative as I learnt more about miscarriages and even the struggles of American people who sometimes cannot afford their healthcare costs. It reminded me to always be thankful for the NHS and never take it for granted.

I’m really interested to see what other videos ELLE create and hope you they are all as inspiring and thought provoking.
