Mirror Modelling

As technology advances its interesting to think how we can apply it to fashion and the way we shop. There have been exciting developments with online shopping, such as the update on Asos. It is now possible to upload photos off your camera roll to the app and within seconds it gives you a whole bunch of items similar to that included on the photo. It’s a really clever way of filtering through the website to find similar products, making the the shopping experience easy and efficient. 

One of the main problems with online shopping is disappointment with products. Many people receive the garments try them on and feel deflated that the product doesn’t look the same on them as it did on the model. This can knock their confidence and end with the stress of having to return the item in search of something else. The real problem with this stems from the models being used.

No single person looks the same, so why advertise clothing on a size 8 model when the garment is available from sizes 4-18? Instead I thought why not add another feature to online shopping, allowing the customer to see the clothing on a model the same size as them. Not only would this remove false expectations from the products, but it would give the customer a clearer idea of what the garment would genuinely look like on their body. 

This could be developed further by creating an online avatar of yourself using face captures and filling out information on your height, size, skin colour, and hair colour. This information could then generate your own online model, allowing you to see what different garments would look like on yourself with a click of a mouse. 

This idea could completely remove the problems caused by lack a of body confidence and comparisons to models, stopping the strive to unattainable perfection. It could also eliminate a vast number of returns and refunds for companies, allowing them to gain more profit. 

Although a complex idea, I wouldn’t be surprised if something like this was available at some point in the future, it makes sense and I’m certain would be extremely popular.
